The South African province of Gauteng was hit by a powerful storm with downpours and heavy hail on Friday, February 26.

In the town of Benoni, east of Johannesburg, hail completely covered the streets, turning them into icy rivers.

The storm runoff carried ice crumbs along the roadway, leading to local floods. The Johannesburg Emergency Service (EMS) and the Ekurhuleni Municipality (DEMS) were on high alert.

In Alberton, several buildings were flooded, including schools and a hospital. Water poured into the corridors of the medical facility, where patients had to be transferred to a safer place.

That was an insane hail storm in South Africa!

  1. Helps the water table, less drought.

Don’t slip on that ice. If you’re not used to ice, it gets you by surprise. We get hail a few times a year.
