Suddenly, social media were flooded by reports of loud explosion noises heard in different districts of the vast city of Lima (El Augustino, San Borja, Rimac, La Molina, Surco, Surquillo, Lima Center, San Juan de Lurigancho, Brena, Jesus Maria, Miraflores). Sound of thunder? Dynamite explosions?
- The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology rules out thunder as no storms were rolling over Lima at this time.
- There wera actually not explosions or any dynamite attacks reported on this day either.
Officials believe the loud and mysterious detonations felt strongly in several districts of metropolitan Lima were the results of fireworks taking place at the Cerro San Cristobal.
