Cryoseisms, or “frost quakes,” can produce loud cracks of noise that some startled people have likened to distant bombing. And now they are being mapped by people around the world!
Now there are entries recorded from as far as Illinois and Maine — complete with descriptions of houses shaking from top to bottom or vice versa.
So if you are sure the mystery boom you heard is to be classified as a frost quake, add it to this ice quake map.
